Our Method

Home Our Method

At inlingua Malta, we don’t just teach English, we teach English the inlingua way

Our trainers only conduct lessons in the target language .

You should start thinking in the target language as soon as possible. Translations are confusing and waste time.

Your trainer will give you the opportunity to speak as much as possible during your English course.

The only way to learn a language is to speak it! After all, you can only learn a new sport by practising it from the start. So why not speak English from day one?

The majority of class time is spent focusing on speaking- with the book closed.

It is a fact that a language is learned by using and hearing it, therefore you need to be less reliant on your eyes during the lessons.

We concentrate more on teaching structures (i.e. how words are put together) than on teaching individual words

Language is not a collection of words, but a system of word combinations.

Your trainer will diagnose the extent of your knowledge

Before supplying a model or providing a solution, your trainers will build on your knowledge and work on filling in the gaps as soon as possible.

We keep theoretical explanations to a minimum.

You don’t have to know the inner workings of an engine to be able to drive a car! You’ll be able to figure out the rules by listening to examples!

You are encouraged to play a creative role in the learning process.

In order to be constructive and creative in your use of the target language, you have to experiment! Learning a list of phrases which may come in handy one day is absolutely pointless!

Everyone is different!

Our trainers use a variety of teaching techniques to develop the individual strengths of each student. The goal of the inlingua method is to make language learning as efficient and enjoyable as possible. The method is flexible, giving teachers the ability to adapt their approach to the individual requirements of each student. Factors such as linguistic talent, motivation, openness and cultural particularities all have to be considered.

We show you how to use the language in practical situations

We focus on day-to-day skills and the correct formal structures which will help you communicate clearly and effectively. A structural approach to language learning is one which places the main emphasis on learning the structures or grammatical concepts of a language. The functional approach emphasises learning how to express oneself in everyday situations. The most efficient teaching method builds on the combination of both approaches. The inlingua method teaches structure based around functional situations.
